This two-day course will provide delegates with the opportunity to learn how to apply EC3 in design. The course will begin with an overview of the Eurocodes and EC3 in particular, before looking at the basis of structural design to EC3. The main focus of the course will be on design practice using beams, columns, and tension elements as the main design topics.

The course will start from a review of the typical forms of earthworks and will emphasise the need to clearly understand and integrate the design and construction aspects. The geological content of modern civil engineering degree courses is often quite limited and engineers often need to develop their geological appreciation in practice. Surepath Training are pleased to announce that they have been commissioned to deliver a bespoke programme of Eurocode related courses for a contractor at their offices. The course will include elements of EC0, EC1, EC2, EC3 and EC7. Starting from a permanent works perspective, design requirements to satisfy the codes will be addressed using a combination of presentations, worked examples, and discussions. With the aid of a specialist temporary works designer, the course will later move on to examine the application of the codes to temporary works problems selected by the client.

The content is largely design related and includes a reprise of basic soil mechanics, ground modelling and parametric assessment issues, and aspects of foundation design, retaining walls, slopes and earthworks.
