In November 2018 we had great pleasure delivering a lecture on the importance of good site investigation to over 100 Level 3 students of civil engineering at Nottingham Trent University. Feedback from the lecture was very good, with extended discussions afterwards with some very keen students. We hope to be invited back again next year!
About 50 people turned out to hear our Dr Andy Goodwin speak about EC7 at the IStructE Regional Group meeting at University of Sheffield on 16 May 2018. Entitled “EC7 is Just for Geotechnical Engineers – Isn’t It?”, the talk gave an overview of the drivers behind the ‘new’ code and the principal practical changes from a structural engineering perspective. The talk seemed too go down well, and it attracted a lengthy Q&A session.
Just in case you haven’t seen the advertising put out by IStructE, you may wish to know that our Dr Andy Goodwin is giving a presentation to the Regional Group on 16 May 2018. Entitled “EC7 is Just for Geotechnical Engineers – Isn’t It?”, the talk is aimed at de-mystifying EC7 to help structural engineers recognise its implications for them and aid its wider adoption going forward. Surepath Training have been commissioned once again by a large multi-national consultancy to run several mock interview courses for graduates pursuing professional qualification in the Autumn review sessions with the ICE. Each course will run over one day in 3 centres across the UK. The course involves the candidates submitting their draft Professional Report in advance, based on which the candidates undergo a mock review and then receive individual feedback on their report and their interview.

Surepath Training are pleased to announce that they have been commissioned to deliver a bespoke programme of Eurocode related courses for a contractor at their offices. The course will include elements of EC0, EC1, EC2, EC3 and EC7. Starting from a permanent works perspective, design requirements to satisfy the codes will be addressed using a combination of presentations, worked examples, and discussions. With the aid of a specialist temporary works designer, the course will later move on to examine the application of the codes to temporary works problems selected by the client.

Following the success of a previous programme of courses in 2015 for a site investigation company, Surepath Training have been commissioned to extend the programme to provide bespoke geotechnical training to meet their ongoing and developing needs. The course will be provided through workshops held at their offices. The content includes a reprise of basic soil mechanics, ground modelling and parametric assessment, and aspects of foundation design (shallow and piled).

We are pleased to announce that we recently completed a new course on structural concrete design to EC2. Delivered in Chesterfield over 2 days in May and June, the course received excellent reviews. It is planned to follow this success up with a new course on EC3 in the Autumn of 2016.
